If you are healthy with no apparent vision problems, AL-Basar Eye Clinic (formerly An-Nur Eye centre) recommends a complete eye exams once every two years but if vision problems have been established, yearly exams can help your eye care specialist track any changes in your vision.

Even if there is no apparent eye or vision problems, at about age 6 months, you should take your baby to a paediatric eye specialist for his or her first thorough eye examination.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists differ from optometrists & opticians in their levels of training and in what they can diagnose & treat. As a medical doctor who has completed college and at least eight years of additional medical training, an ophthalmologist is licensed to practice medicine and surgery. An ophthalmologist diagnoses and treats all eye diseases, performs eye surgery and prescribes and fits eyeglasses and contact lenses to correct vision problems.
